Basics

Why should I sign up for Virtual Nerd?

We know there are many options to consider when looking for help. One thing completely unique to Virtual Nerd is our patent-pending Dynamic Whiteboard® online instructional platform. But there are other reasons to consider Virtual Nerd as well.

Is Virtual Nerd meant to replace teachers?

No way. There's no substitute for a good teacher. Or for a good substitute teacher. Virtual Nerd's mission is to help students learn. Our goal is to provide an additional educational resource for students. Our tutorials are meant to supplement, not replace, in-class instruction.

Does Virtual Nerd offer private or in-person tutoring?

No. But if you are looking for private or in-person tutoring, our friends at WyzAnt can definitely help you find a qualified local tutor in the subject you need. Try our WyzAnt widget.

Is Virtual Nerd meant to replace private tutors?

No. If you can find a good tutor, if you can afford private tutoring, and if you can fit it into your schedule, it can be an extremely powerful way to learn. In that case, Virtual Nerd can be an excellent supplement. On the other hand, if private tutoring is not an option for you, or if you want to explore other alternatives first, you've come to the right place.

Does Virtual Nerd give answers to homework questions?

No. We do not believe that providing answers to students' homework problems is an effective way to facilitate learning. Instead, our philosophy is to reinforce what students are taught in class, so they learn the concept, can apply what they have learned and can solve problems on their own. Our extensive library of tutorials is developed by Virtual Nerd and unique to Virtual Nerd. So, while our tutorials explain how to solve typical homework problems, they can't be used as a shortcut to the answer.

Which subjects does Virtual Nerd currently cover?

Virtual Nerd currently offers hundreds of tutorials in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Intro Physics.

Which subjects does Virtual Nerd plan to cover in the future?

We are currently working on completing our coverage of middle grades math and will then be expanding into grades as early as grade 3. Let us know which subjects you're most eager to have us cover, and we'll see what we can do.

In the coming months, we will be making practice problems accessible within other plans as well.

Our tutorials

How do you create your tutorials? Who writes/edits/presents the information?

We work with a staff of experienced educators—teachers and tutors—to build original course content consistent with current textbooks. We complete an extensive review of the top textbooks and link our original content to textbook problems and concepts. We also ensure our content is aligned with standards defined by national math and science educators.
