School Edition

The Basics

In-class supplemental instruction. Targeted intervention. A way to keep advanced students engaged. Flipped classrooms. Individual learning stations. Homework help. Support for ESL. Something worthwhile to do with all those iPads we bought.

Every school has its own set of strengths, challenges and goals, and accordingly Virtual Nerd is being used in a variety of ways in classrooms across the US.

More

No way. There's no substitute for a good teacher. Or for a good substitute teacher. Virtual Nerd's mission is to help students learn. Our goal is to provide an additional educational resource for students. Our services are meant to supplement, not replace, in-class instruction.
We work with a staff of experienced educators—teachers and tutors—to build original instructional content consistent with both current textbooks and standards, as well as instructional best practices. We also ensure our content is aligned with standards defined by national math and science educators.
We are currently working on expanding our math coverage into grades 5 and lower. Let us know which subjects you're most eager to have us cover, and we'll see what we can do.
No. We do not believe that providing answers to students' homework problems is an effective way to facilitate learning. Instead, our philosophy is to reinforce what students are taught in class, so they learn the concept, can apply what they have learned and can solve problems on their own. Our extensive library of tutorials is developed by Virtual Nerd and unique to Virtual Nerd. So, while our tutorials explain how to solve typical homework problems, they can't be used as a shortcut to the answer.
If you have a computer and Internet connection that allow you to watch YouTube videos, there's a very high probability you have what you need to take full advantage of all the features on our site. For more information, click here.

No. If you can find a good tutor, if you can afford private tutoring, and if you can fit it into your schedule, it can be an extremely powerful way to learn. In that case, Virtual Nerd can be an excellent supplement. On the other hand, if private tutoring is not an option for you, or if you want to explore other alternatives first, you've come to the right place.
